The Greek Island of Santorini, and particularly its smalltown Oia is world famous for its spectacular sunsets. Thousands of people gather each night to watch the magic happen. Experiencing it while sailing the Aegean Sea takes it to an other level.
How it Works
When you book your trip with Sunset Oia, the company picks you up from your hotel in an air-conditioned bus and drops you off at the sailing spot. The sunset cruise takes about 5 hours, depending on your itinerary. During the trip you’ll swim, snorkel and… of course, just relax.
The excursion includes transfer from and to your hotel, a babecue buffet (vegeterian if needed), open bar incuding wine, ouzo, water and soft drinks and snorkeling gear. The tour stars from the Athinios port at 14:30 sharp and stops 4 times.
Hot Springs in Caldera
We get 30 minutes to jump off the boat and to enjoy the hot springs heated by what remains of the volcano. The crew warns us not to get carried away about the water temperature. It is only lukewarm. So considering I don’t like cold water, I decide to stay aboard and to enjoy the sunshine + view. Warning: Hot springs contain sulfur, therefor they will advise you to skip the swim in case of heart or respiratory problems.
Red Beach in Akrotiri
The deep red colorings of the cliffs impress me. It almost looks like a canyon from up far. Nice surrounding to have a chat to the people on board while sipping on some local wines. The good life!
Buffet at The White Beach
Time for an excellent barbecue buffet with a view of a clean, crisp white beach. Although I’m the only vegeterian on board of a meat eating Greek society, there is a lot of fresh salads and yummy veggies to choose from. I’m very pleased with the meal. And the post food coma nap is taking over.
The sunset we witness is more than incredible. But unfortunately it’s over before I know it. Just like that the cruise comes to an end and we go back to our hotels.
If you got time and are willing to be at sea for a decent amount of time. The Sunset Sailing trip is definitely worth the 95 euros. You get food, gear, transport and one priceless sunset in return.
